On April 9th, Justin Thibeault, Principal at Ai3, raised the bar with his self-assembled and curated geothermal display, which he presented to over 50 students at Galvin Middle School in Canton, MA. In conjunction with Consigli Construction and Leftfield Project Management, the concepts of geothermal wells and ground-source heat pumps were described as well as how that specific heating system benefits the new Galvin Middle School project and how these wells and systems are installed.
The engaged students asked a number of questions related to the geothermal component but also about the project in general. The enthusiastic group cheered when it was noted that their new school was being designed as an all-electric building, using no fossil fuels as an energy source.
This lesson supported the Land, Air, Water & Energy Resources Unit, aligning with the Canton School District’s curriculum. Future lessons in this educational series will be scheduled as the project progresses to engage students with real-world examples.
