On Thursday September 17th, students, teachers, administrators, and community members joined Town and State officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new William H. Galvin Middle School in Canton, MA.
The ceremony began with inspiring solo and group musical performances by current Galvin Middle School students, setting the tone for a celebration centered on students and the community. Remarks from distinguished guests echoed a shared message of gratitude, to the students and educators who will call the new school home, and to the many community members, Town departments, local leaders, and State partners whose collaboration helped make this project possible.
Designed for 1,020 students, the new 218,350-square-foot school will feature innovative collaborative learning environments, expanded gymnasium and performing arts spaces, an 800-seat auditorium, and spaces that celebrate the rich history, character, and pride of Canton.
While Thursday marked the ceremonial groundbreaking, construction has been underway since July 2026, with more than 20 geothermal wells, site retaining walls, access roads, and foundations for the gymnasium and performing arts areas already underway. The ceremony was intentionally held in September so that Galvin students could be part of this important milestone. Steel erection is planned to begin in November, with occupancy targeted for the start of the 2028–2029 school year.
