On a beautifully sunny and warm April 9, 2024, the East Providence School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new Martin Middle School and East Providence Preschool project. Ai3 was overjoyed to see a select group of current Martin Middle School students given a special opportunity for hands-on participation in the groundbreaking.
The new 164,443sf middle school will serve students in grades 6-8. The original performance theater and gymnasium of the existing middle school building are in very good condition and will therefore remain in place while the new school wraps around the existing programs. The design also incorporates a new early childhood learning center containing 16 pre-kindergarten classrooms and support space as part of the middle school project.
Ai3 is excited to continue collaborating with the City, the School Department, RIDE, the OPM (Peregrine Group), and the Construction Manager (Shawmut Design and Construction) in making this beautiful new school come to life for the students, staff, and community of East Providence, RI.
