A classically designed new high school facility, Plymouth North High School draws inspiration from the federal design of the Nathaniel Morton School (former Plymouth High School) and the Massachusetts State House designed by Charles Bullfinch in 1795. Plymouth North is one of two high schools completed by Ai3 for the Town of Plymouth, each with a distinctive comprehensive high school program.

The Plymouth North design places STEAM at the center of the educational model to prepare students for the unique challenges of an increasingly global, knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. The integrated Applied Engineering Lab is a focal point of the design, which delivers robotics, engineering, sustainable design instruction, physics, math, manufacturing, and materials fabrication practices in a single applied lab environment. The school is an entirely wireless campus environment, so students can use laptops from the outdoor courtyard or connect to the large-scale video display wall for in-house TV productions. Many amenities are available for the community as well, like the indoor walking track, artificial turf field, new stadium with track, and full performance auditorium.  Plymouth North is connected by walkways to the Plymouth Council on Aging facility, simultaneously designed and built on the same site by Ai3, to encourage interaction between the students and senior citizens.

“Green” design and sustainable strategies such as photovoltaics, gray-water collection, a wind turbine, and electric vehicle charging stations were of great importance to the Town of Plymouth. As a result, Plymouth North High School achieved LEED Gold certification and, had the proposed wind turbine been erected, it would have been one of the first LEED Platinum public high schools in the country.
